About VPS Cost Notes
A small independent reference for what VPS plans actually cost, built from providers’ own published prices, with the source and the date it was checked attached to every figure.
Who runs this
VPS Cost Notes is published by reesezhang, an independent developer, as a self-funded research project. It is not owned by, affiliated with or sponsored by any hosting provider, and no provider has any editorial input into what appears here. This release carries no advertising, no sponsored placements and no affiliate links.
Where the numbers come from
The current sample is 19 published plans from 4 providers: Akamai / Linode, DigitalOcean, Hostinger, Vultr. Each price is a USD snapshot taken from the provider’s own pricing page, and each row links to the page it came from. Check dates are recorded on the methodology page. Providers that publish prices only in EUR are left out rather than converted, because a converted price is not a published price.
Nothing on this site is a quote, an offer or a guarantee. Providers change prices, promotional terms and regional availability without notice; the official page is always the authority.
What this site does not claim
- It is not a benchmark. No performance testing was run on any plan listed.
- It is not a ranking. Plans are not ordered by what they pay this project, because nothing pays this project.
- It is not a complete survey. Equal vCPU or memory counts do not imply equal performance, and a small sample is not evidence that a plan is the cheapest available.
- It is not purchasing advice. Taxes, add-ons, refunds and regional terms are excluded and must be checked with the provider.
How the pages are built
Every figure you see — in the tables and in the calculator — is produced by one cost function reading one data file, so the tables and the calculator cannot disagree with each other. The calculator runs entirely in your browser; what you type into it is not sent to a server, stored in a cookie or kept in local storage. See the privacy note.
Corrections and limits
This is an early public release with a deliberately small sample. If a price, a term or a source link is wrong, it should be corrected rather than quietly dropped. A public correction channel is being set up; until it is published, treat anything here as a starting point and verify it against the provider’s own page before you buy.
