Prepaid vs monthly: the same 4 GB, two different bills
A prepaid promotional rate looks cheaper per month, and it is. But you pay the whole term before you use it, and the amount that leaves your account is not the same as the amount you have consumed. Here is one memory class priced both ways from published numbers.

Two numbers, not one
Cash paid is money that leaves your account inside the horizon you selected. A prepaid contract bills a whole term at once, so cash can include months that fall past your horizon. Allocated cost counts only the months you actually use inside that horizon. The two diverge exactly when a prepaid term is longer than the period you are comparing.

What the gap looks like
At a 12-month horizon, Hostinger KVM 1 takes $155.76 in cash because the published initial term is 24 months, while only $77.88 is allocated to the 12 months you use. The remaining $77.88 buys months 13–24.
Over a 36-month horizon the same plan takes $443.52 in cash, of which $299.64 is allocated to use — an effective $8.32 per month. The monthly-billed 4 GB plans in this sample cost between $720.00 (Regular Performance 4 GB) and $864.00 (High Performance 4 GB) over the same 36 months, with no prepayment and no commitment.

Which model fits
- Prepaid fits when you are confident you keep the server for the full term. The lower monthly rate applies for the whole term, and the effective monthly cost is the promotional rate.
- Monthly fits when you may leave early. A prepaid contract charges for the full term regardless, and these figures assume no cancellation refunds. Monthly billing keeps the exit open.
- Neither is a quote. Taxes, extra IPv4 addresses, backups and add-ons are excluded here. Confirm the term and total in the provider cart before paying.
